Hike roughly ten miles with your guide to circumnavigate the spectacular lake at Cuicocha. Originally formed by a volcanic crater, it is a breath-taking site. Although the towering volcano of Cotacachi is extinct, there are deep fissures in the rocks below which means the bubbling gasses can be seen emerging from the water. The two islands within the lake have been formed by resurgent volcanoes. The walk is easy to moderate and takes up to six hours. It is important to note that the walk will be at an altitude of 3000-3400 metres, so it can feel more challenging at this height.
